The errors or remarks described here concern the
main part of the Hipparcos Catalogue only.
The errors originally published on the ESA site that concern the main part of the Hipparcos Catalogue are also included.
The luminosity (field H76) for two entries are incorrect on the
ASCII CD-ROM:
In the Photometric note (H70=P), the entry for HIP 48662
which queries a misidentification with X Vel due to incompatible
measured and historic measurements can be ignored. (Hipparcos measured
magnitudes are in the range [6.525,6.969], the literature B magnitudes
are quoted as 10.30 to 11.53, B-V is given as 3.76 magnitudes, thus
the Hipparcos measurements are probably compatible with the
literature.)
[Communicated by Bill Owen, January 2000]
HIP 580 is BD-19 6570, and not BD-09 6570
(Communicated by Nick Mascall to CDS, 21 June2005)
HIP 22767 has a spectral type A0, and is not an carbon star
(the N star is -21s/+9" away and is TYC 1832-1766-1,
see Platais et al., 2003A&A...397..997P)
HIP 24548 is not BD+11 755,
has a spectral type F8, and is not an carbon star
(the carbon star V431 Ori is 0s/-242" away,
see Platais et al., 2003A&A...397..997P)
HIP 28999 is not the Carbon star V* V1393 Ori which is
+3.4s/+26" away (see Platais et al., 2003A&A...397..997P)
HIP 35015 is the Be star BD-17 1866 = MO Cma,
and is not a carbon star which is TYC 5969-923-1 and is +7.1s/-146" away
(see Platais et al., 2003A&A...397..997P)
HIP 54738 does not exist, there must have been an error in the input
catalogue for this system (CCDM J11125-7644; the A component
is HIP 54744). The actual position of CCDM J11125-7644B
is about 20'' away from Hipparcos position
[C. Brunet and F. Ochsenbein, CDS, 10 July 2009]
HIP 83404 is not the carbon star which is
3'South of Hipparcos position (see Platais et al., 2003A&A...397..997P).
It turns out that HIP 83404 is the B7/B8Ib/II star HD 153764
(spectral type from Houk's survey Vol. 3)
HIP 85148 is not the carbon star which is
1'North of Hipparcos position (see Platais et al., 2003A&A...397..997P).
HIP 94049 should be a carbon star, but was classified F5V
in Houk's survey Vol. 4 (Cat. III/133). The star does not look very
red on the POSS plates. Noted as a Hipparcos error in Table 8 of
Platais et al. (2003A&A...397..997P).
HIP 105680 has a spectral type Be, not G0
[(Communicated by Thom Gandet to CDS, March 2003)]
HIP 111824 is CD-37 14870, and not CPD-37 14870
(Communicated by Nick Mascall to CDS, 21 June2005)
HIP 114110 (observed with HIP 14113) and HIP 114176 (observed with
HIP 114177) are noted as probable measurements of scattered light from
a nearby bright star. The non-reality of 114110 and 114176
(traced to fictitious entries in the WDS and INCA) has been confirmed by
MMT observations reported by D. Latham (private communication, 8 May 1998),
and confirmed by inspection of the DSS
[J.L. Falin, 12 May 1998].
