2RE J002444-741253: Star HD21330 observed at high resolution at Ca II H&K. Upper limit of 0.1 A on equivalent width of emission cores. 2RE J010349-725446: Crowded field where we've done little work. The star to the north of the error circle was observed - it is probably an A star or late B star, and so is unlikely to be the EUV source. 2RE J021420+513453: Three ~15th-magnitude stars near the edge of the error circle were observed at low resolution. Nothing remarkable. Many other potential candidates. 2RE J042537-571348: 2RE error circle has moved in direction away from three stars observed. Significant difference between the position of the 2RE error circle and the XRT error circle. The XRT error circle is consistent with the position of a ~15th-magnitude blue object, LB 01727, which is a Seyfert 1 galaxy (Pye et al. 1995). 2RE J045325-421347: Four stars close to or within the 2RE error circle were observed. These included a ~19th-magnitude star coincident with the XRT position. The spectrum of the faint star was too noisy to distinguish any features. However, subsequent work reveals this to be a polar CV (Beuermann and Thomas 1993). 2RE J050003-362401: Various stars in and around 2RE error circle were observed at low resolution, and the ~13th magnitude star near the centre was also observed at high resolution in the vicinity of Ca II H&K. No evidence of activity. 2RE J050046-345113: Various stars observed at low resolution. The ~11th-magnitude star to the north of the error circle is an unremarkable F star. The ~17th-magnitude star just within the northern boundary of the 2RE error circle at RA(2000) 05h 00m 45.94s, Dec(2000) -34d 50' 37.7" is very blue and is a good candidate as the optical ID of the source. However, our spectrum is too noisy for a more detailed classification. 2RE J051523+324045: IUE observations reveal a white dwarf companion to the bright star (KW Aur) (Barstow et al. 1994; Hodgkin et al. 1993). 2RE J061654-645724: Two of the brighter stars in the vicinity of the error circle were observed at low resolution. No remarkable properties. 2RE J063758-613159: High-resolution spectrum of HR2468 (V=6.2) in the vicinity of Ca II H&K does not reveal any evidence for emission cores with an upper limit to the equivalent width of 0.2A. 2RE J065048-003236: High-resolution spectra of BD-00 1462 (V=5.8) in 1991 May, August and December failed to reveal emission cores in either CaII H&K or Halpha with an upper limit to the equivalent width of 0.05A. 2RE J074345-391154: 2RE error circle has moved towards XRT position and away from stars observed in this programme. 2RE J084549+485255: HD74389 (V=9.4 A star) has V=15.5 white dwarf companion identified from IUE observations (Barstow, private communication). 2RE J102713+322356: The V=13 star near the XRT position may have weak emission cores in Ca II H&K, but these may be too weak to account for the observed WFC flux. Identified with `hidden' white dwarf by Barstow (private communication) from IUE observations. 2RE J111645+445417: Four stars observed at low resolution. The V=10 K star near the XRT position was also observed at high resolution in the vicinity of Ca II H&K and Halpha but the resulting spectra were relatively noisy. The upper limit on the equivalent width of any emission cores is ~0.6A. 2RE J112617-684044: Three stars were observed at low resolution within the crowded WFC error circle. No remarkable properties. The XRT position is significantly different from the WFC position. Identified with GU Mus (Nova Muscae 1991) by Pye et al. (1995). 2RE J130320-405654: Four stars observed at low resolution. No remarkable properties. 2RE J130928+081503: Six stars observed at low resolution. No remarkable properties. Bright star to north-east of current error circle was not observed as it was too far from the original error circle. 2RE J192559-563327: The V=7.7 G star exhibits Ca II H&K emission cores with an equivalent width of 0.4A. However, this is probably insufficient to account for EUV flux. Barstow et al. (1994) find that the G star has a white dwarf companion from IUE observations. 2RE J205118-134132: Three stars observed at low resolution. No remarkable properties, but the spectrum of the faint star within the error circle is very noisy. 2RE J223428+081245: Five stars observed at low resolution. No remarkable properties. 2RE J230034-070423: No evidence for emission cores in the Ca II H&K absorption lines in the V=9.6 G star spectrum (upper limit to equivalent width 0.05A). Barstow et al. (1994) report that this star has a white dwarf companion from IUE observations
